Hey all sorry i havent been checking up on GW lately, and am planning to get back into GW when factions come out. So if you have an existing GW account, you wont be able to keep your items/gold to use in GW:Factions?

That's great news to hear. Yay Now I can create a Ritualist and an Assassin. I still have some questions though.
Can my 4 existing characters still go back to Tyria once my account is link to new Factions?
Can my 2 new characters in Factions play the old missions in Tyria(ie. THK, UW,Desert missions)?

You will have two options.
a) Create a new account for Factions, which will have 4 slots, full access to the Factions campaign, but no links with your GW account.
b) Add the Factions key to your GW account, which will give you 6 slots with access to all the items/gold in your GW account, and characters will be able to travel between the two campaigns (via Lion's Arch and Seitung Harbour).

I was hoping for at least 3.
Better than one though. I'm probably going to make a Rt/A on one account and A/Rt on the other and have 2 pvp slots on each to have one of every profession.

YOu can please some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. If you don't like it, go elsewhere. Personally, I'm very happy with the change, room for an assassin (I found ritualists to be, meh, kinda like monking ) and one other character plus my pvp slot. Happiness for me!

I think we need more benefits from linking. I mean why have 6 account slots when you can have 8?
Despite it being against the EULA, I know many people who are planning to sell their original Guildwars accounts in order to buy Factions. If ArenaNet isn't going to give us more bonuses from linking then I feel that lots of people are just going to keep selling the previous chapter and using the money to buy the next chapter. This way ArenaNet will stand to lose a lot of money.

What's all the whining about? If you want to play absolutely all the possibilities, you need two accounts. That has been true all along, and remains true.
Six character slots is what one really needs for Prophecies (1 for each profession except Mesmer, because there's little need to play a PRIMARY mesmer in PvE, plus 1 for PvP). We're two short on a single account. Eight is presumably what one really needs with two new professions; once again, we're two short.

I'll definately link. I still have one extra slot on my current account and 2 extra would be just bonus. I do as much PvP as PvE

This was a disgusting marketing stunt. Notice how a lot of people are heaving sighs of relief at the thought of 6 total slots? Let me tell you, they were planning to have 2 extra slots for linked accounts right from the start. However, they floated the rumor about only 1 extra slot just so that when we found out we were getting 2, we would actually be happy although we were actually getting screwed.

I have to say I dont ndersand what all the fuss is about, its not like the pve hardcore who want a primary of each profession play pvp anyway so why would they care about carrying thier unlocks over to the new account?
If you want 8 slots keep the accounts seperate and laugh your head off.
i'm happy as larry with 2 slots.

We were never given 1 slot per profession to begin with, so why do people suddenly think that they are going to get them now?
Two slots is great I will have enough to do as I wish and a pvp slot left over

So if you don't link you'll have 8 slots and if you do link you get 6. Somehow I still feel like we're getting ripped off. If they were being fair it would be 8 slots regardless.

all i can say is all the unlocking i did wont be able to put in use coz im planning to use the 2 slots for primary ritualist and primary assassin. thus i once again will have no space for a pvp character. I just want a freakin space for a pvp char. Anet coudlve made it 6 roleplaying/pvp and 1 pvp

I don't know but I have to agree that the 2 extra slots would be amazing. I'm not going to be complaining.

Imagin JUST getting factions.. you now have 8 professions and only 4 slots.
I belong to those who'd love to have a pvp only slot ontop of my pve chars though.. having played all professions through pve, I now have 4 characters for pve and none for pvp (unless I take my pve char into pvp). With two new classes and 2 slots I'll have a pvp slot right up till I finish playing either assassin or ritualist through the pve side of things..and then.. I dunno, depends if I like the profession or not I guess.

Eegad!
WARNING:: LOTS OF TEXT TO READ. VERY OPINIONATED THOUGHTS. POSSIBLE RANTISH TALK. PROCEED AT OWN RISK!! (Summary of thoughts in second to last paragraph)
It's all a confusing mixture of feelings!! I am SO SO SO excited about factions coming out, and the huge new world that will be available, however, at the same time i am a bit perturbed that they did this whole "4 slot seperate, 2 slot linked" deal. In respects to capitalism, i think it is quite obviously a ploy to gain a bit more revenue. The fact is people DO buy multiple accounts for additional space in order to play all the characters and for storage; this is actually very common for a lot of the long lived GW players. This, in a way, i understand.
DESPITE that, i am still quite annoyed with Anet. They make a game with an advertised multitude of skills across 6 different classes (chapter1), but then limit the amount of characters we can try at once? With only 4 slots to make characters, we are forced to make hard decisions on what class we want to try. Once we have made the character, beaten all of PvE, unlocked that primary class skills, captured all the elites, and gotten custom gear... WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD I WANT TO DELETE THAT CHARACTER TO TRY ANOTHER CLASS?!? I have already put so much effort into these 4 characters, how could i just delete so much time and in game money spent!? Essentially, we are FORCED to buy another copy in order to try another character class. To me, to simply delete something that took hours and hours to accomplish is so unthinkable it erks me. And they expect me to either delete to play another class... or buy that other copy. CMON!
I dont know how much you all value your time, but i place mine on quite a high rung. Not being arrogant, but what i mean is, every human life's time is precious. Because of this Anet has taken full advantage in order to get people to give them more money. I have played GW almost from day one. In that time i have somehow managed to resist the urge to buy another account in hopes that an update would give us those extra slots. So you can picture my glee when they announced Chapter 2!! Now, you can understand how angry i am learning that if i choose to link both chapters i only get 2 extra slots?!? So now its 8 classes with only 6 slots for 2 linked chapters. And again, why would anyone NOT want to link them? As i have said, i already spent hours and hours of my life working on the Chapter 1 characters, so i definitly would want them to be able to explore this new Chapter! This works both ways, after i try out the new classes, beat the new PvE chapter, unlock all the skills, capture all their elites, and spend tons of in game cash (essentially time) for EACH character, OF COURSE i would want them to do things in chapter 1!
Playing chapter 2 unlinked with chapter 1 just doesnt make sense to me... and still others are ALREADY forced to buy 2 copies of Chapter 2 if they want them all to be able to visit the new realms. Its like "Hey, now that you have spent hours of your life in this game, go ahead and delete some of your life so that you can actually try out the other aspects of the game OR just give me mor money!"
You can think all you want that this is just an angry man's rant, or some disgruntaled "elite" GW player who thinks he's above everything... I really dont care. But my point stands. Its HOURS of my life, and I am expected to simply delete that portion of time, or to dish out the cash to purchase another copy. To put things in perspective, I am a full time student. I work full time and do classes full time. About 90% of my earnings go back into school and living expenses. I live on such a tight budget its insane. What little spare time i have, i like to enjoy games such as GW. However, that enjoyment is just about stifled when i find i cannot experience all the game has to offer purely cause i value time (spent on my characters) and i cannot afford to purchase another copy. I even had to start saving a few weeks ago in order to afford Chapter 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So whats wrong with this picture? Capitalism at its worst! The poor student remains that poor student, even when it comes to game enjoyment! Nearly fresh out. so to SUMMARIZE:: Creating and fully experiencing 4 characters takes time. I value time. I cannot simply delete this time spent, because it is valuable to me. Therefore, i cannot experience the full game. With Chapter 2 only offering 2 more slots with linked chapters making 8 classes and only 6 slots, the time/value cycle repeats. To not link the chapters in order to get a full 4 slots, means i cannot interchange characters. This means that the portion of my life spent on Chapter 1 characters remains in Chapter 1, and i cannot take something i spent so much time on, to explore a new land. This again limits enjoyment and experience, and the previous cycle continues. Meaning with this logic the only choice is to buy additional copies of either chapter, but to interchange characters between those copies i would need both chapters. And the cycle continues, Capitalism wins. LOL!
Never-the-less, since i love the game itself so much, I cannot pull myself away, and will continue to play GW. Oh, what a black hole... Sorry to be so long and rantish, but thats my opinion. Respect it, and comment if you wish. Flaming is expected. enjoy.
